This novel course will consider recent advances in human genomics brought by the very rapid progress in the technology of the DNA sequencing.
It was not possible to predict just few years ago that full sequencing of the individual human genome could be achieved for few hours at a cost less than
1 000 USD.
This allows now to sequence and to compare hundreds of ethnic genome such as Latvians, Russians, Jews etc and subsequntly to reveal genomic DNA signatures associated with susceptibility to diseases or/and to elevated or to diminished propensity to such cognitive abilities as music, mathematics etc etc
By analyzing a representative several hundreds strong collections of the outstanding artists, sportsmen, mathematicians and other highly talented individuals it should be possible to reveal Genomic DNA Signatures (GDSs) associated with desirable traits or warn about susceptibility to disease.
This progress will enable breakthroughs in Personal and Predictive Medicine as well as in efficient professional orientation, which will become very useful in crime prevention, in selection for entrance to universities, for long term planning in national health policies, social insurance, building the modern professional Army and Police force and many other aspects of modern human society.
This digital DNA revolution brought by sequencing of individual genomes: one individual human genome is represented by 3×10 000 000 000 base pairs, or about 52 volumes of Encyclopedia Britannica opens unimaginable so far vistas in human culture.
